Joseph's work is receiving increasing recognition, featuring in the Royal Society of British Artist’s Rising Stars 2016 exhibition and the upcoming Finding the Future of Figurative Art at Beverley Art Gallery Yorkshire.
Joseph Murphy took a traditional route to woodcarving through an apprenticeship as a carpenter and joiner. After working onsite for a number of years he trained in classical woodcarving at City and Guilds. He combines conservation and restoration carving with commissions for original sculpture. His own work unites traditional methods with contemporary forms and themes, capturing fleeting moments in the natural world.
