Join Untied workshops for a four-week Creative Mending & Darning course at the South London Gallery in Peckham. Learn hand-stitching techniques that offer a variety of creative possibilities for repairing and embellishing clothes and textiles.

During the sessions, participants are introduced to:

• Stocking darning
• Patches
• Sashiko running stich
• Boro-style repairs
• Embroidery
• Swiss darning

Tools, scissors, samples for practising and a range of threads and wools are provided. This is a four-week course, suitable for beginners as well as those with more experience.

SLG Skills is the South London Gallery’s series of creative courses and workshops. Any surplus income from ticket sales helps support the SLG’s extensive education programme.

This course is taught by Michelle Urvall-Ashraf and Ieva Hofmane, who formed Untied workshops because of their shared aspiration for a slower pace in the fashion industry, where we can regain an emotional connection to our clothes. Untied considers darning and mending as a way to protest against the throwaway habits of fast fashion.

This course starts on Wednesday 6 October and runs weekly on a Wednesday from 6pm – 9pm for 4 weeks until Wednesday 27 October.
