About
The craft of treasure inlay originated during the Shang Dynasty. Yu Shengshou’s technique is informed by traditional skills and continuous innovation. His treasure inlay pieces feature materials and human figures. Precious materials such as mother of pearl, gold, silver, jade, agate, pearl and coral are used in this technique. The patterns are made with similar materials and are inlaid on lacquerware or woodware.
Yu Shengshou is a master of arts and crafts in Shanghai. Although he is over 80 years old, he still works diligently. His works have been awarded the Gold Award for “China Original, Hundred Flowers Cup” by China Arts and Crafts Boutique Award and Silver in the Irene International Arts and Crafts Boutique Award at the 2014 World Arts and Crafts Festival.
