PYTON Place | International Pavilion Norway

An exhibition of collectible design, craft and art from the contemporary Norwegian scene. Curated by Richard Øiestad and Are Blytt from PYTON, Gallery 5 at Cromwell Place is divided into several room typologies, as a nod to the apartment it once was. The presentation also includes works by the PYTON artist group’s individual practices.

About

PYTON is a multidisciplinary exhibition platform and artist group in Oslo showcasing historic and contemporary Norwegian craft, art and design. Founded in 2019, PYTON today consists of Henrik Ødegaard, Richard Øiestad, Tron Meyer and Are Blytt. The PYTON exhibition space in Oslo aims to be a pioneering platform for exhibition concepts, inviting up-and-coming designers, craft makers and artists to a common space, juxtaposed with leading figures from the past.

PYTON has vast experience of working with exhibitions and projects on a variety of international platforms such as art fairs, public museums, private galleries and independent project spaces. The gallery was founded as a response to what could be considered a void of commercial platforms supporting the growing interest in collectible design, craft and art from the contemporary Norwegian scene. The programme fast developed towards a deep dive into historical and often underexposed projects, set in direct dialogue with contemporary craft and design production, conceptual thinking, trends, movements and life itself.

PYTON curates works that are pioneering within their field. They hope to contribute to the research development of public and private exhibitions and collections by offering a framework for exposure of contemporary production.

For London Craft Week 2022, by invitation of Norwegian Crafts, Richard Øiestad and Are Blytt from the PYTON team curate an exhibition in Gallery 5 at Cromwell Place. The gallery space is divided into several room typologies as a nod to the apartment it once was, using this as a catalytic idea for creating a stage for Norwegian art and design from the 20th century to the ultra-contemporary. The selection spans design, fine art and noteworthy craft objects, commissioned and curated. The presentation also includes works by the PYTON artist group’s individual practices.
