About
Designed in collaboration with Sir David Adjaye OBE, the ROKSANDA store at 9 Mount Street in Mayfair provides a creative gallery space to host and champion the works of both young and established female artists and makers, encouraging diverse creativity and reinforcing the brand’s belief in supporting women. In celebration of London Craft Week, a selection of works by female ceramist Bronwen Grieves (@bronwen.grieves) are exhibited throughout the ROKSANDA store inviting conversations in form and composition.
As a largely self-taught artist, Grieves builds and fires all her work in her garden studio in Nottingham. Informed by her extensive collection of mid-century modernist objects, her works strive to balance structure with fluidity, using organic and inorganic forms as a reference point. As a ceramist she has been developing her craft using flat coils which are incised with horizontal or vertical lines before being fixed together. She builds her pieces using grogged stoneware primarily in black and white; glaze is used sparingly, often limited to slips which are partially rubbed away to reveal the texture and colour beneath. Never shown publicly until 2018, Grieves’ works bring a profound sense of history and dedication to craft on display throughout the store.
ROKSANDA
In over a decade since launching her label, Roksanda has evolved an unmistakable woman-centred design aesthetic within the luxury fashion market. As a woman designing for women, the ROKSANDA brand is not just about creating a new perception of femininity, but also a platform that champions, celebrates and highlights other female voices. Aiming to challenge the notion of beauty through a balance of opposites, Roksanda creates refined pieces which speak to the ROKSANDA woman’s personality while also offering a sense of shelter and refuge.
Roksanda’s daring use of colour, sculptural shapes, modern distinctive cuts, innovative use of fabrics and a dedicated focus on craftsmanship define ROKSANDA’s signatures across ready-to-wear and accessories. Recurring themes seen through her bold use of colour and love of oversized, sculptural sleeves take inspiration from her experiences of growing up in Serbia, while expressive and dynamic prints are informed by modern and contemporary art influences.
An engaged member of the contemporary art community, Roksanda’s participation in the art world has led to landmark collaborations with organisations such as the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation, Studio Voltaire and artists Eva Rothschild, Rana Begum, Ella Kruglayanskaya and Tai Shani. Championing a multidisciplinary approach to her work, Roksanda merges the boundaries between the differing creative disciplines of art, dance, and fashion, which can be seen in her many collaborations, and once again highlighted throughout her Mount Street store for London Craft Week.
