About
Emma Louise Payne launches her first ceramic homeware collection at Browns, based on the abstract bark of London plane trees.
The plane tree is an English native that is popular on the streets and parks of London. It’s a tree that feels like home to a country girl when in London, instantly recognisable by its abstract bark patterns with muted earth tones, punctuated by violets, citrus greens and yellows.
The collection is based on a core colour palette of six tones that are reflected in six repeating shapes. These simple colours and shapes build up the dinnerware set. This allows simplicity through choice of minimal colour and shape use, giving the user the chance to curate complex patterns in a tablescape. Slipcast porcelain gives each item a light feeling and allows for slight variations during the hand-making process.
Extending and developing from the dinnerware set, the homeware range grows into more complex shapes still, using the same colour and shape palette. These items complement the dinnerware collection while creating a still-life when placed together as sculptural features when in use or when providing decoration when out of use. They are functionally designed as sculptural objects as well as being practical vessels.
Continuing a working partnership that started with Native’s unique bar made from bespoke tiles by Emma Louise Payne, Emma is thrilled to be back at Browns launching her first collection. The connection to nature that runs strongly through the collection echoes Native’s environmental ethos. Browns is a proud supporter of craftsmanship and ingenious design. View Emma’s collection amongst Browns’ spring collection and use the objects in Native’s courtyard restaurant.
