About
For centuries, many of the British Army’s ceremonial uniforms have been beautifully embroidered with goldwork. Learn how to elevate your own embroidery skills in this special weekend course led by tutors from Hand & Lock. Techniques covered include cutwork, padding, pearl purl, appliqué, thread work and French knots.
Day one: Saturday 13 May, 10am – 4.30pm
In the morning, a curator shows you some fine examples of goldwork from the National Army Museum’s collection, explaining their historic significance. A representative from Hand & Lock then discusses the techniques used in the embroidery.
After lunch, take part in an embroidery class and have a go at a design inspired by the items you’ve seen.
Day two: Sunday 14 May, 10am – 4.30pm
On the second day, continue to work on your design in an embroidery class, before taking home the finished product.
