PATERSON ZEVI with YALI and IKEBANA PROJECTS
BOOKING INFORMATION
Booking not necessarySaturday by appointment only
In partnership with London Craft Week, this presentation marks a continuation of PATERSON ZEVI’s passion to create dialogues between art and design in London and Venice. It follows on from YALI’s inclusion in New Nature (June 2022) where Kahane’s unique moribana vessels were a central part of the group exhibition curated by Julia Tarasyuk and in collaboration with IKEBANA projects. YALI also debuted a series of glass and metal furniture, titled ANGEL Tables (September 2022) as part of the London Design Festival.

About
The Hanadome project is a collaboration between YALI and IKEBANA projects and PATERSON ZEVI, bringing together the craftsmanship of Venetian glassmakers with the aesthetics of Ikebana 生け花(Japanese art of flower arrangement). YALI will be debuting a new series of sculptural objects that respond directly to the foundations of Ikebana. Hanadome 花留め (literally “holding flowers”) is a glass tool originally used in Ikebana for flower arrangements. Unlike kenzan (pin frog), Hanadome’s curvy lines gently hold flowers and allow for endless creative possibilities. Inspired by this traditional craft, YALI has created unique glass objects, made entirely by the hands of Murano artisans who have been practicing their craft for generations.
To be used as a stand-alone object or together with flowers or dry material, the Hanadome’s transparent glass structure reflects the natural light and the beauty of its surroundings. The organic, asymmetrical shape of each glass piece winds around itself – an almost weightless ball suspended in the air. As Marie-Rose Kahane from YALI writes: ‘While working on new designs, in glass, wood, porcelain, ceramics or metal, nature is always at the back of my mind. The Engadin mountains and lakes are my earliest images. With IKEBANA all the objects come to life’. IKEBANA projects makes this concept a reality with their addition of carefully crafted Ikebana presentations; shown together with the Hanadome on the occasion of London Craft Week. These will be one-off Ikebana arrangements with seasonal flowers and dried plants, that dialogue with the glass objects to give them new meanings.
