About
The Lettering Arts Trust is delighted to present ‘The Nereids’. In classical antiquity, the Nereids were sea nymphs revered by the citizens of Ancient Greece for their benign qualities that protected sailors, valued the sea’s rich abundance and nurtured the maritime environment.
Some of the UK’s foremost contemporary lettering artists affiliated to the Lettering Arts Trust have interpreted these ancient deities in mixed media. There are calligraphic works on paper, examples of complex letterpress composition, textiles, etchings and fine hand carvings in stone and wood.
Proceeds from all sales contribute to the work of the Lettering Arts Trust, which supports the training of the next generation of lettering artists by investing in apprenticeships and journeymen education, specifically encouraging the hard-won skill of hand letter design and hand carving in order to sustain this precious heritage craft.
