About

Jack Doherty was born and educated in Northern Ireland.  He now lives and works in West Penwith Cornwall. Crossing the boundaries of art and utility, his porcelain vessels are made using one clay, one colouring oxide and a single firing. Over time his process has become simpler and more refined in the belief that stripping away the unnecessary can produce work of complexity and depth. Jack’s firing technique is a vital and dynamic process using soda to produce a unique palette of texture and colour.  In 2019 he was awarded the Janet Mansfield award for his innovative work with soda glaze.

Jack’s career in ceramics includes a period as Chair of the Craft Potters Association, a founder of Ceramic Art London and guest editor of Ceramic Review magazine. His work is exhibited internationally and is represented in many private and public collections.  In 2021, he was shortlisted for the prestigious Loewe Craft Prize.
