About

Susan Halls’s urge to become an artist began when she was a child, coupled with an intense animal fascination – the two subjects united.

She studied ceramics at her local art school The Medway College of Art from 1984-86, then headed straight to the RCA to gain her Masters, graduating with distinction in 1990.

After a six month residency at the Banff Centre for the Arts, Canada, she established her first studio in Putney and then Balham. At this time she was already exhibiting internationally and in demand as a teacher. The V&A acquired work along with the Shigaraki Ceramic Sculptural Park, Japan.

1998 saw her move to the USA where she continued to exhibit and teach. Homesick, she returned to the UK in 2018, eventually settling in Cornwall. 2024 saw her first solo exhibition in this country for 25 years, at the Ruthin Craft Centre where she was given the rare opportunity to exhibit across their three galleries.
