Rachel is a ceramic artist based in Frome, Somerset. Using porcelain Rachel creates simple forms which explore the interplay between studies of gradated colour and qualities of translucency through opacity and light. Through these properties each form conveys an individual perception of space, light and colour and sustains an expression of abstract and rhythmical pattern.
With meticulous detail Rachel applies complex layers of developed ceramic slips onto thinly rolled porcelain slabs, the finished pieces encompass understated minimal forms and the controlling use of line on a dimensional canvas. Works can be experienced both individually and in groups, where the spatial relationships and interaction of light can be further explored.
Rachel is a graduate of Cardiff School of Art (2000) and has been exhibiting her work in galleries and selected shows for nearly 20 years.
