About

As part of London Craft Week 2025, Binghui Song Studio presents its first Open Studio event, inviting visitors into an evolving space of artistic creation. Through works in glass and mixed media, the artist’s work flows between the unfinished and the fully formed—exploring the emotional potential of matter in its states of melting, transforming, and solidifying. With an emphasis on process over outcome, the works transcend the functional or symbolic definitions of “craft”, manifesting sensation, emotion, and personal experience through the voice of materials.

This Open Studio event highlights not only the artist’s sculptural works, but also the hybrid functions of the studio itself—as a space for education, collaboration, and artistic research. Throughout the week, Song will be joined by invited practitioners for live demonstrations, informal conversations, and co-creative actions that foreground empathy, shared making, and material curiosity. The adjacent SONG Art & Craft workshop will also be open to the public, offering participatory lampworking experiences and further dissolving boundaries between artist and audience, artwork and action.

“Within and Beyond the Boundary” signals the studio’s inquiry into the conventional roles of art spaces and the limits of categorisation. It is not a closed site of production, but a shifting container—moving between exhibition, workshop, laboratory, and sanctuary. Here, craft is not a label but a pathway—a means of expression, connection, and transformation. Through informal encounters, hands-on making, and shared space, the studio offers a living reflection on how contemporary craft can go beyond the object—toward care, resonance and relation.

This Open Studio is presented by Binghui Song Studio CIC—an independent, artist-led community interest company. All proceeds from the workshops will be donated to support its public programmes.Â
