About

Phoebe Collings-James: a rose, a bridge, a house presents a new body of work by the London-based artist whose practice spans ceramics, sculpture and installation. Working with clay, iron-rich glazes and carved surfaces, Collings-James creates tactile forms marked by gesture, pressure and the physical trace of making.

Her sculptures often move between the figurative and the abstract, drawing on references ranging from ancient histories and folklore to contemporary questions of power, identity and community. Through the manipulation of clay and surface, her work emphasises material knowledge and the expressive possibilities of the handmade.

Alongside her artistic practice, Collings-James founded Mudbelly Ceramics, a studio initiative offering free ceramics education to Black students, reflecting her ongoing commitment to community-centred making.

Presented at Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery, the exhibition forms part of the gallery’s programme exploring contemporary approaches to craft, material and sculpture. Public events and exhibition-related activities will be announced closer to London Craft Week.
