Experience sculptor Sadie Clayton working with copper, live at Old Spitalfields Market.

Through installation, demonstration and workshops, visitors to this Craft Week presentation are given the opportunity to watch Sadie’s intensive, hand-working process live on the market floor, engage with her gateway installation and feel the transformative energy of copper, join a workshop to get hands on with copper and create a unique art piece.

Installation: Throughout London Craft Week, the Market’s iconic red phone box will be transformed into a beautiful copper installation art piece.

Demonstration: Each day Sadie will transform a market stall into her copper workshop where passersby can come to watch her at work. As she sculpts, visitors can see how the material’s unique qualities allow Sadie to form beautiful, fluid sculptures and hear from Sadie as she extols the materials healing properties.

Workshops: There will be three bookable workshops taking place; one on Tuesday lunchtime and two on Saturday where participants can learn how to shape and mold copper into art forms to take away.

Talk: On Thursday evening Sadie will gather industry friends for a panel discussion – exploring the profound connection between craft, creativity and wellbeing as a living tool for social renewal.

About the artist: Sadie was always fascinated by the versatility of copper as a metal and as a ‘fabric’. Drawing from many fashion design techniques, she creates artworks from copper to bring positivity, and channel copper’s natural healing powers to reinvigorate individuals, communities and the environment.
