About
Alex Monroe grew up in the 1970s Suffolk countryside in an old, crumbling house surrounded by wild, tangled nature. He enjoyed a childhood rich with freedom and imagination – roaming through fields, forests and rivers and constantly crafting all sorts of interesting (and sometimes mildly dangerous) tools and inventions to accompany him on his adventures.
After moving to London to pursue his dreams of becoming a punk (!) Alex turned his making skills to jewellery, training at the School of Art, Architecture and Design. After graduation, Alex Monroe was established as a business in 1986, with the aim of creating well-priced, originally designed and handmade jewellery, made to be worn, loved and treasured – values which remain unchanged to this day.
