Booking will be available via the V&A website in AprilFrom tea caddies to water jars, this workshop, led by Grand Tea Master Sōshin Kimura of the Hōshinkai Tea School, offers a rare opportunity to handle historical and contemporary lacquered tea ware from his collection. The event includes a traditional tea demonstration, with participants drinking matcha and enjoying Japanese sweets.

From tea caddies to water jars, this workshop, led by Grand Tea Master Sōshin Kimura of the Hōshinkai Tea School in Kyoto, offers a rare opportunity to learn about and handle a selection of historical and contemporary lacquered tea ware from Master Kimura’s collection. The event also features a demonstration of the traditional tea practice, with matcha and Japanese sweets served to participants.
This event is organised in connection with Urushi Now: Contemporary Japanese Lacquer, a
display on 21st-century artistic expressions in lacquer, on view in the V&A’s Toshiba
Gallery of Japanese Art from 30 April 2026.
