About

The seedlings of Selborne Pottery emerged many years ago: as a child, Robert Goldsmith had access to the raw material because his mother Eve Goldsmith, an artist, used to sculpt using a coarse stoneware clay.

A one-year Art foundation course was followed by three years of Art School, specialising in Ceramics. After completing his degree, he spent several months working for a family pottery in Denmark. He then made the decision to start his own Pottery at Neatham Mill before the opportunity arose for him to acquire the workshop in Selborne.

Robert continues to make, decorate and market an ever-changing range of pots. There is a continuing thread that runs through the Pottery, where everything is still make and decorated by hand – from the wedging of the clay to the throwing on the wheel and the making of the glazes and pigment.
