About

Hwajeong Yeo (b.1992) lifts glaze off the surface. For centuries, glaze has existed in service of clay. Yeo works with it as an independent sculptural material, without clay.

Holding an MEng in Ceramic Engineering and an MA from the Royal College of Art, her practice centres on the Korean concept of Gyeol, the texture, direction, and time embedded in how things form. Works such as Glaze Excavation (2021) and Gyeol (2025) follow glaze as it records its own transformation. Her work emerges from the encounter between intention and material, forming a physical record of glaze finding its own way
