About
Fan Ji (b. 1997) is an award-winning interdisciplinary artist working with clay. She holds an MA in Ceramics & Glass from the Royal College of Art. Her recent awards include the 2nd Prize at the Blanc de Chine International Ceramic Award and the GCB Prize at the Gyeonggi Ceramic Biennale. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including the British Ceramics Biennial (UK), the Gyeonggi Ceramic Biennale (South Korea) and the V. International Ceramics Triennial UNICUM (Slovenia).
Working between craft practice and contemporary art, Fan approaches clay as an active geological witness capable of holding traces of ecological violence. Her work often brings clay into contact with industrial materials such as metal mesh, toxic oxides and manufactured debris, allowing unpredictable reactions to emerge. Through anti-craft processes that reduce control and foreground contingency, she treats the kiln as a site that echoes geological time.
Through installations and material experiments, her practice reflects on toxic heritage, ecological entanglement and the shifting agency of matter.
