Celebrate Scottish Craft at Mount St. Restaurant.
The Scottish Room at Mount St. Restaurant sees a day of programmed events led by basket-maker Helen Jackson, ceramicist Kevin Andrew Morris and director of Craft Scotland, Irene Kernan.
Join at 10.30am for an illustrated talk and display of work by Scottish ceramicist Kevin Andrew Morris. Initially motivated by an investigation of his own family heritage and material culture, Kevin’s recent work engages with concepts of craft, material and place, often exploring themes of multigenerational craft and food cultures.
At 12pm, director of Craft Scotland, Irene Kernan, is in conversation with ceramicist Kevin Andrew Morris and basket-maker Helen Jackson to explore how themes of heritage, landscape and place influence their respective practices and how these themes resonate more widely throughout Scotland’s contemporary craft sector.
The makers also discuss their individual commissioned work for Artfarm’s award-winning Fish Shop restaurants in Scotland and Washington DC, comprising Helen’s striking installation of over 100 willow fish and Kevin’s handcrafted, glazed tableware.
At 2pm, discover the deeply satisfying process of making string using leaves and stems during a hands-on workshop with Scottish basket-maker Helen Jackson. The workshop is accompanied by a display of Helen’s extraordinary baskets and woven items.
