About
Barts North Wing is a Grade I listed building at the heart of St Bartholomew’s Hospital. Built in 1732 and designed by architect James Gibbs, it is an extraordinary example of Georgian architecture and craftsmanship. The building recently reopened to the public after undergoing extensive restoration and conservation by a team of experts in an 18 month National Lottery Heritage Funded project, Sharing Historic Barts. Join us in the incredible Great Hall for this one-off, full day event for London Craft Week.
The day event will be split into two sessions; presentations in the morning followed by demonstrations in the afternoon. You can attend the whole day event or choose to attend either the morning or afternoon sessions. Booking for the morning is essential, and light refreshments will be included in your ticket price.
The presentations will include a talk from Barts Heritage CEO Will Palin, on the importance of heritage crafts in restoration projects, particularly on Grade I listed buildings.
The afternoon will consist of lightening talks and demonstrations from expert craftspeople involved in the restoration of the building. Drop-in from 3.00pm – 6.00pm to delve into the skill and expertise of heritage crafts.
The day will conclude with a gold leaf illumination workshop, inspired by the gilding in the Great Hall, led by artist Sarah Davis.
