About

The Embassy of Italy in the United Kingdom and ICE Agenzia – the Italian Trade Agency for the promotion and internationalisation of Italian companies, in collaboration with CONFARTIGIANATO, presents “Benfatto. Excellence in Craftsmanship between Art, Material and Time” – an exhibition dedicated to outstanding Italian craftsmanship.

The exhibition is based on the idea that high-level craftsmanship is not merely production but a living culture. Not simply an object, but a story. Not just technique, but vision. The exhibition journey evokes the sensory dimension of craftsmanship: the gentle sound of tools, the scent of worked wood, the resistance of stone, the ductility of metal, the softness of leather, the silent vibration of fabric. Each piece thus becomes a tangible testimony to a profound dialogue between technical expertise, artistic sensibility and material culture. “Benfatto” presents a journey dedicated to the creative explorations of Italian master artisans, interpreters of diverse languages, themes and styles, yet united by a common denominator: the excellence of Made in Italy.

Particular attention is given to new materials, research, innovation and sustainability – elements that today define the evolution of contemporary craftsmanship. The exhibition brings together 18 brands and approximately 45 works, selected to represent the value of contemporary Italian craftsmanship by showing how it can combine tradition and innovation, material culture and sustainability, quality and international vision. In an increasingly competitive global landscape, Italian know-how continues to stand out for its creativity, strong identity, and ability to evolve without losing its roots.

An unmissable workshop dedicated to providing deeper insight into the exhibition will be held on May 12th. The session will reveal the stories and visions that define Italian craftsmanship, exploring its history, traditions, and techniques that have made it well-known worldwide, as well as the new trends and innovations shaping its contemporary evolution.

In addition to the curator-led exhibition tour, a dedicated workshop will be held, during which Gabriella Degano, Head of International Relations at Confartigianato (the Italian Confederation of Micro and Small Craft Enterprises), will present the exhibition’s genesis and concept, revealing the stories and visions that define Italian craftsmanship. The workshop will explore the history, traditions, and techniques that have made Italian craftsmanship well-known worldwide, as well as the new trends and innovations shaping its contemporary evolution. Representatives from some of the exhibiting companies will also participate, sharing their entrepreneurial and creative journeys and offering the audience a direct insight into the combination of artisanal mastery, research, and innovation. At the conclusion of the workshop, a networking session will take place, providing a unique opportunity to engage directly with companies representing Made in Italy, explore the projects presented in depth, and establish new and exciting professional and cultural connections.
