Braid It: A Playful Kumihimo Workshop with Hannah Wild
BOOKING INFORMATION
£30.00
Explore the traditional Japanese braiding technique Kumihimo while transforming colourful discarded balloon strings into sculptural accessories led by Hannah Wild in partnership with One Hundred Shoreditch.
About
Kumihimo – meaning ‘gathered threads’ – is a traditional Japanese artform and craftwork for making braids and cords. Using weaving discs and through guided making and playful experimentation, we will swap customary threads for discarded balloon strings – typically a single use material – to create joyful, one-of-a-kind accessories such as bag charms, button details and brooches.
Rooted in Hannah’s practice of reimagining overlooked waste materials, the session invites participants to slow down, work with their hands and discover the creative potential of everyday materials.
No previous experience is required. All materials will be provided and participants will leave with their own braided creation and the skills to continue the technique at home.
