About
The Royal Thai Embassy, London proudly presents ‘Chud Thai Through the Ages: Weaving History, Craft and Identity’, celebrating 170 years of Thailand-UK diplomatic relations. This exhibition showcases the artistry and cultural heritage of Thailand’s national costume and textiles.
Visitors journey through the legacy of Thai traditional costumes and Thai textiles, championed by Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, and modernised by Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya. The exhibition features royal costumes, including pieces from Her Royal Highness’s private collection, blending heritage and contemporary design.
Highlights include:
- A special lecture by Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari and Asst. Prof. Dr. Anucha Thirakanon on the evolution of Chud Thai and Thai textile craftsmanship.
- A showcase of traditional textiles such as Mudmee Silk, Prae Wa, Yok, and Hill Tribe designs.
- Live demonstrations by Thai artisans, including Lygodium (Lipao) weaving and Benjarong porcelain painting.
- Interactive workshops offer visitors the chance to craft their own lapel pin using authentic Thai textiles.
Don’t miss this unique opportunity to experience Thailand’s rich textile traditions, the evolution of Thai traditional costumes and their modern interpretations. Admission is free, but workshop and seminar slots are limited, so advance booking is recommended.
