About
City & Guilds of London Art School hosts a two-day event showcasing some of the specialist craft and conservation skills they champion on their undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. This free-admission event includes an engaging programme of activities alongside the exciting opportunity to glimpse inside a real art school.
Printmaking Workshop
Learn the traditional process of ‘blind printing’ in the historic print room in hands-on workshops on Saturday 13 May. Blind printing is an intaglio printing process without ink, meaning participants leave the Art School with beautiful debossed artwork but no inky fingers! The one-hour workshops are £8 (+ booking fee) per person and booking is essential. Book via Eventbrite: https://bit.ly/LCW2023_Printmaking
Wood and Stone Carving
The wood and stone-carving studios are open and visitors are encouraged to cast their vote in the ever-popular two-day carving competition. This year, the competition is themed around Sir Christopher Wren in honour of the tercentenary of his death, also contributing to the programme of Wren 300. As well as watching wood and stone carving in action, you can have a go at stone carving yourself.
Conservation Demonstrations
Students studying on the BA (Hons) Conservation: Books & Paper and BA (Hons) Conservation: Stone, Wood & Decorative Surfaces courses give demonstrations of different conservation techniques and processes. The courses equip students with the specialist knowledge and skills to conserve cultural heritage for the future.
There will be exhibitions including the annual Taylor Pearce Drawing Prize, The Lettering Arts Trust and work by City & Guilds’ National Saturday Club Members.
Established in 1854, City & Guilds of London Art School has an outstanding reputation for excellence in the teaching of contemporary fine art, the conservation of cultural objects and books, and paper, stone and wood carving.
