About
Artist Talk: Craft Lineage x Design Innovation
Duration: 30 – 45 minutes
Lynn is a Singapore-based practitioner whose practise explores news ways of engaging with cultural traditions through play, participation, and design. Her work reimagines heritage as an inclusive and evolving experience, often bridging craft with interactive and educational formats.
For London Craft Week, Lynn presents a proposal that gamifies the art of lion dance, translating its movements, rhythms, and cultural meanings into an accessible participatory format. Through this approach, Lynn seeks to make traditional knowledge more approachable to wider audiences.
Her work reflects an interest in sustainable knowledge transmission, rethinking how cultural practises can be shared, learned, and sustained across generations through contemporary design strategies.
The talk explores the challenges in the transmission of intangible cultural heritage, the design journey of Silver Beats – from traditional drum patterns to sensor-enabled, adaptive modules and how CraftxTech can serve as a safeguarding strategy rather than a replacement of tradition.
The talk will be followed by a 45 minute hands-on lion dance workshop where participants will experience lion dance as a living craft practice rather than a staged spectacle. The workshop includes an introduction to foundational lion dance percussion structures, guided rhythm coordination exercises and basic lion head manipulation techniques. Participants will then engage the Silver Beats interface where tradition, movement, and technology converge in real time.
