Curatorial Talk, with The Garnered
BOOKING INFORMATION
Book at info@solunacraft.comThis curatorial talk explores the question: How does personal identity manifest within a work, and how do the trajectories of one’s life become embedded in it? Featuring Korean artists alongside London-based artists, the discussion unfolds as a cross-disciplinary dialogue spanning craft, fashion, and design.
About
In connection with Soluna’s exhibition title “Origin of Materials,” the conversation will draw attention to the role of artist identity in shaping material expression. As Soluna Fine Craft participates in London Craft Week for the fourth time, this talk also aims to broaden engagement with a wider audience.
Titled Origin of Materials, the exhibition proposes that the origin of materiality lies not in the substance itself, but in the artist. The way materials are handled and the time endured in bringing each work to completion embody the environment in which the artist has lived and the attitude with which they approach life and practice. Materiality, therefore, does not arise solely from the inherent properties of clay, glass, or metal, but from the depth of thought and sensibility brought to them.
Within this context, a distinct sense of Korean identity subtly emerges through lived experience and cultural grounding. An artist’s perspective cannot be separated from the environment that shaped it; through this inseparable relationship, philosophy takes form and is realised as material expression. Ultimately, the exhibition suggests that materiality is not merely a question of matter, but of thought. In this regard, the conversation will be further expanded through a dialogue on London’s craft discourse with the founder of The Garnered (London), offering a broader perspective on materiality across cultural contexts.
