About
Hats are, in essence, wearable sculptures. They have a magical ability to enhance the beauty of the wearer and to captivate the spectator.
The sky is the limit when it comes to millinery design. Originality and innovation are key. Think British eccentricity and Royal Ascot flamboyance.
There are no limits to the materials that can be used to make headpieces. Sinamay (handwoven abaca/banana leaf fibres) and straw are typically used for summer hats, and wool felt and fur felt for winter hats.
Odette and Nora – couture milliners and founders of Odette & Elliott, London and NDLQ Millinery respectively – will be sharing, in live demonstrations, the secrets of crafting couture swirls or “dancing ribbons” with steam as trimmings for stylish hats.
The audience will be able to see close up and experience the enchanting transformation of sinamay as a versatile raw material into “dancing ribbons” and how these “dancing ribbons” are used as trimmings to elevate hats into highly sophisticated hats.
Come and join Odette and Nora on a journey of discovery into the world of couture millinery, in the magnificent setting of The Oriental Club just 1 minute away from Bond Street tube station.
Be bold and adventurous. Make stylish, artisanal and sculptural headpieces an integral part of your modern wardrobe, and not just for race days and weddings, be it:
– Sunday lunch in the company of good friends at a gourmet restaurant
– an indulgent afternoon tea with a whimsical theme
– stepping out to see an exhibition at an art gallery
– an evening at the opera, or
– sipping cocktails at an artfully social bar where paintings and potions meet
Royal Ascot week is just 1 month away. Bring home with you your own handcrafted couture headpiece!
Tea, coffee and biscuits will be served.
