About

‘Home Sweet (Sustainable) Home’ is a creative collaboration between The Museum of the Home and Kierra Campbell and Whinnie Williams of sustainable interiors brand Poodle and Blonde. Through bunting workshops and talks, this event explores and celebrates the significance and feelings of home.

Often described as a sanctuary from the world outside, our homes define a deep sense of belonging and evoke a visceral connection to possessions and places we hold dear. How we live and where we live is usually influenced by our cultures and the communities we make up, and despite moving several times, we instinctively recreate feelings of familiarity that link us to our pasts wherever we go.

It’s these memories both of people and of the objects that fill the sacred spaces we call home which have inspired the carefully curated exhibitions that make up the ‘Rooms Through Time’ collection at the Museum of the Home, and the aims behind the ‘Home Sweet (Sustainable) Home’ programme.

Paying particular attention to the 1970s African-Caribbean Front Room, the programme invites you to share and hear stories of the past and present, and their deep connections to the communities that make up the museum audience. These stories continue to influence and provide a constant narrative for local makers and designers, whose heritage lives on through their craft.

Likewise, Kierra and Whinnie share their commitment to preserving the past through their love of vintage, retro and mid-century prints and the homewares they have reimagined as decoration within homes today, and how they can be future heirloom pieces. They lead the bunting workshops using a selection of Poodle & Blonde waste stock fabric, together with your choice of sustainable vintage trim. Join for an opportunity to create beautiful yet simple luxury pieces to add to your home.

Booking is essential. Spaces are limited and participants receive a special discount from the Museum’s shop.
