Join one of UK Parliament’s ‘behind the scenes’ events during London Craft Week to discover the skills and crafts that are involved in protecting and preserving our iconic heritage buildings for future generations.

Many of the UK Parliament’s buildings are Grade I listed and the skills needed to preserve them are in decline.

Hosted on Friday 15th May, the Heritage Craft Skills Fair aims to shine a spotlight on some of the craft skills that have been involved in managing these buildings and that will continue to be needed in the future.

If you would like to find out more about the craft skills needed at Parliament or are considering a career in heritage crafts, this event is for you!

The showcases will cover:

• heritage stained glass – meet the artist who crafted the Elizabeth Tower clockface and the Jubilee Window in Westminster Hall
• stonemasonry skills that were used to lay the new encaustic tiles through multiple corridors in the Palace of Westminster including Central Lobby and St Stephen’s Hall
• heritage plasterwork and mouldings in the recent parliamentary building works
• leadwork, lead window repairing and traditional forging used in recent parliamentary building works
• upholstery and timber restoration skills involved in restoring heritage buildings and their remarkable contents
• conservation skills to manage heritage assets

After a short welcome and tour of Westminster Hall, you will visit the Jubilee Room to see the showcases and speak to the different teams involved.
