London gallery SoShiro presents a striking new work in collaboration with Cuban multimedia artist Alexandre Arrechea and the Mosaic School of Friuli, Italy.

Gallery director Shiro Muchiri travelled to the school with Arrechea just before the pandemic. Together with the third-year students, they developed the design for a unique furniture piece that truly demonstrates the craftsmanship and detailing the school is renowned for. The handmade modular unit, entitled ‘Collector’, is part of a new body of work that explores the relationship between the human body, architecture and colours. Arrechea himself, a formidable talent previously of the famed art collective Los Carpinteros, takes inspiration from his native Havana, layering vibrant tones with echoes of the city’s buildings to inform his distinctive approach.

SoShiro gallery is dedicated to presenting wide cultural perspectives on contemporary art and design and is committed to patronising and promoting artists and designers from a variety of backgrounds and heritages.
