Visit Leighton House over the weekend to see Kamilah Ahmed’s Facets in Resonance, a mixed-media embroidered textile arch commissioned as part of the museum’s exhibition The Arab Hall: Past and Present. Meet the artist after-hours on Friday and take part on a plasterwork workshop with artist Mariam Ashraf, on Saturday.
About
From 15 May to 31 July 2026, British Bangladeshi artist Kamilah Ahmed presents Facets in Resonance at Leighton House, a mixed-media embroidered textile arch which will sit over the fountain in the museum’s Arab Hall, framing a new view on this iconic space. Referencing traditional crafts and decorative arts, including Damascene tiles, Iznik patterns, stained glass, gold mosaics, marquetry inlay, and mashrabiya screens, the work honours the legacy of the Arab Hall as a physical reflection of the value of artisanal practices and cross-cultural exchange.
On Friday 15 May, join Leighton House after-hours for an opportunity to meet and talk to Kamilah, and be one of the first to see her contemporary, site-specific commission, as part of Leighton House’s major exhibition The Arab Hall: Past and Present.
On Saturday 16 May, take part in a hands-on, artist-led workshop, to experience the full journey of plasterwork: from mixing and pouring plaster to carving and transferring designs, creating your own unique decorative piece. Led by Mariam Ashraf, an artisan and researcher in Gypsum Craft, specialising in Islamic geometry and floral design.
