In celebration of London Craft Week, Charlotte Freemantle and Will Fisher of Jamb have invited ceramicist Isatu Hyde to take up residence in their Pimlico Road showroom from May 12â17th.
Charlotte and Will first discovered Isatuâs work through her training with Andrew Couch of Marches Pottery in Ludlow, whose pieces they have long collected. They were drawn to Isatuâs beautifully clean shapes and her use of traditional glazes – such as celadon and tenmoku.
Working mainly on the potterâs wheel with stoneware and clay bodies, Isatu creates work that is rooted in everyday use. For her residency at Jamb, she will demonstrate hand-building and present her collection of standard ware, which draws inspiration from pre-industrial craft traditions around the globe. The pieces will be displayed in Jambâs showroom on shelves from their pantry collection and as a tablescape around an 18th-century table.
To complement the collection, Isatu has also collaborated with Jamb to create pieces inspired by antique ceramics in Will and Charlotteâs own collectionâincluding an 18th-century Delft flower brick, a flower vessel, and an apothecary jar once owned by Lady Ottoline Morrell, an influential patron of the Bloomsbury Group. Each piece will be finished in a distinctive block glaze and will be available in an edition of 15.
