Japan House London – Reframing Raden: Conversation and Studio Visit with SIRI SIRI and Matsuda Shōkan

Raden is a technique involving the inlaying of precious mother-of-pearl into lacquer or wood. It has been used in Japan since the Nara Period (710-794 CE). Jewellery designer Okamoto Naho (SIRI SIRI) is joined by renowned maki-e craftsman Matsuda Shōkan live from Japan to explore their fusion of centuries-old raden techniques with SIRI SIRI’s contemporary jewellery design.
