About

Join Stitch-School in the renovated Edwardian surroundings of The Department Store, Brixton to stitch around the Stitch-School community embroidery table. Learning together, explore the art of needlework through a wealth of different stitches.

Stitch-School was founded in 2017 by Melanie Bowles and Aimee Betts with the aim of providing professional and inspirational guidance to reconnect to the benefits of embroidery through embroidery kits, workshops and community events. Stitch-School events offer a space for people to sit down, slow down and feed their creativity through stitching and co-creating a communal Supper Cloth in beautiful environments.

Participants explore the wealth of embroidery stitches, learn together and create a communal supper cloth to celebrate the art of needlework. Discover the benefits of stitching as a form of de-stressing, which encourages making as an antidote to modern life, creating a sense of wellbeing and relaxation.

Previous projects include the Barbican Centre’s Make! season of contemporary crafts, Somerset House, Brixton Design Trail at Squires Partners, Brixton Library funded by Cultural Seed funding, Peckham Festival, The Good Life Festival, V&A Dundee, Marie Curie, Dulwich Picture Gallery, Alexander McQueen and Kings Hill Community Cloth in collaboration with Yinka Ilori.
