About
BiTai is an innovative textile artist whose practice bridges the ancient traditions of hand-weaving with cutting-edge digital technology. A graduate of the Royal College of Art, BiTai’s work is deeply rooted in cultural narratives and aesthetic exploration. Collaborating closely with Tibetan artisans from the Sichuan region of China, BiTai’s designs are brought to life through the craftsmanship of a dedicated workshop established by local folk artists, preserving and revitalizing traditional techniques.
In her latest series, BiTai embarks on an artistic journey that explores the cultural connections between Tibetan and Icelandic traditions, framing it as a metaphorical crossing of the Himalayan mountains. This body of work translates the logic of traditional design into a modern artistic language, making it accessible and resonant to contemporary audiences. Her innovative approach to textiles has been recognized in international platforms, including the “VGRASS Donghua Cup”, where she was awarded the Silver Prize, and the virtual gallery exhibition All In hosted by Fresh Salad Art, which featured her work alongside emerging artists from around the globe.
BiTai’s creations redefine the boundaries of textile art, blending traditional craftsmanship with contemporary processes to craft works that resonate with cultural depth and modern relevance. By intertwining history, heritage, and innovation, her textiles offer a poetic dialogue between the past and the present, celebrating the enduring beauty of traditional craft while reimagining its place in the contemporary art world.
