About

Carina Ciscato works primarily in porcelain.

She throws on the wheel and then alters her pieces to reassemble them. This allows her to explore form in
challenging and innovative ways.

Born in São Paulo, Brazil in 1970, Ciscato studied industrial design in Brazil before going to Germany to train
in ceramics. She then spent six years working in Brazil under Lucia Ramenzoni before moving to London in 1999, where she
worked as an assistant in the studio of Julian Stair and Edmund de Waal.

Since 2003, she has established her own studio in South London. Her work has a distinctive character. It is defined by a deep engagement with the material, embracing
spontaneity and imperfection to convey a contemporary aesthetic. She has taught at Camberwell School of Art and Harrow University of Westminster and currently teaches at CityLit and Morley College.

Porcelain is her main medium.
