About
Caroline Ross is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice explores colour through natural pigments and earth-based materials. Working with rocks, soils and clays, she investigates the relationship between place, material and process, drawing on traditional pigment-making techniques. Her work emphasises hands-on making and an understanding of colour as something derived from the natural world, shaped by geology, landscape and craft knowledge.
She is the author of Found and Ground, a bestselling book on natural paints, and her most recent book, Drawn From the Wild (published June 2025), explores foraged, ancient, ecologically sound and repurposed art and drawing materials. Alongside her practice, she teaches courses and workshops on natural pigment and paint making, sharing her expertise with a wide audience.
