About

Davey Powell is a queer textile artist from South Shields, UK, whose work explores heritage, identity and belonging through bold quilted forms. Raised on a travelling fairground, Powell grew up immersed in the spectacle, craft and visual language of Showman culture.
Through textiles, he revisits and reclaims this cultural landscape, drawing on traditional fairground signage, vivid colour and decorative lettering. Using hand-crafted typography and quilted composition, Powell reframes these influences through a queer lens, creating works that function as both personal narratives and public declarations.
Powell studied Fashion Design at Nottingham Trent University and previously worked in London specialising in latex fashion. His work has been exhibited at St Martins Lane, London; Vane Gallery, Gateshead; and the National Glass Centre, Sunderland. He is currently based in the North East of England.
