About
Jacqueline de la Fuente is an artist and sculptor behind De La Jardin.
Her paper clay vases and sculptures came about organically through her obsession with shapes, form and love for sculptures and vases. Jacqueline has always been conscious of the environment and after starting a family, found everyday waste overwhelming. It came naturally to her to find a way to combine the classic craft of papier-mâché using discarded paper and card waste and develop it into a clay that was tactile, hardy and almost stone-like to touch.
All hand sculpted by Jacqueline, each piece is slowly created leaving the traces of her fingertips whilst making each piece tactile, unique and one of a kind – most of all, perfectly imperfect. She creates biomorphic shapes often inspired by nature and found relics, which then evolve organically. Some are left in their natural pulp finish, but she also uses bold and contrasting colours which are hand painted using high quality water-based paint.
Her pieces are not water tight, but Jacqueline loves to appreciate the charm of this material which is all sourced locally and within the UK. Dried flowers are a perfect match for her vases in particular – no watering needed!
To create pieces from “trash to treasure” feels very rewarding. It’s a fulfilling process to revive these everyday materials into objects with longevity. She loves that her sculpted vases and objects can stand tall in spaces as decorative pieces of art.
