About
Delfina Emmanuel produces sculptural forms with multiple decorative elements. She is inspired by the repetitive and fragile organisms found in the sea which began with her connection to her birth island of Sardinia, rich in marine life. The teapot, one of the most domestic objects, represents habit and familiarity. Delfina’s intention was to take this recognisable shape and reimagine it as something that moves beyond ordinary function and although it retains the familiar form, it not intended for practical use. Its rounded body covered with small pointed forms rise like protective spines that entice the viewer, yet create a sense of caution, the intention is to take this recognisable shape and reimagine it as something that moves beyond ordinary function. By bringing together the essential symbolism of the egg, the ornamental qualities found in Faberge’ work and the natural patterns seen in the sea, she sought to create a piece that sit somewhere between vessel and sculpture.
