Duan YinKai, a member of Bai ethnic minority from Zhoucheng Village, Xizhou Town, Dali City, hails from a Bai family renowned for their indigo textiles heritage.
In the 1990s, she and her husband revived their ancestral dye workshop, Pu Zhen Dyeing Studio, and in 2008, acquired the former Zhoucheng Ethnic Indigo Dyeing Factory. Recognized for her contributions to preserving Bai tie-dye techniques, she was named a representative inheritor by various institutions, including the Dali Prefecture Government (2009) and the Yunnan Provincial Department of Culture (2010).
In 2015, Duan founded the Dali Pu Zhen Bai Indigo Textiles Museum, which earned her accolades such as Dali Prefecture Folk Art Master and Yunnan Province Outstanding Traditional Culture Talent. She was honoured as a Yunnan Provincial Arts and Crafts Master (2016), a National Representative Inheritor of Bai Tie-Dye (2018), and a Yunnan Province Chief Technician under the â10,000 Talents Planâ (2019).
