About

Florian Gadsby is a ceramicist based in London who has been creating functional ceramics for the past ten years. Making both individual one-off decorative and sculptural vessels, as well as groups of pots, he complements their simple architectural forms with feldspathic, reduction-fired glazes that create a rich crystalline effect, these often contains inclusions of metal that are inserted directly into the clay.

Alongside crafting ceramics, Florian has been documenting his meticulous process online since 2014, when he began sharing the everyday work of an apprentice: first with Lisa Hammond MBE in London, UK, and later with Ken Matsuzaki in Mashiko, Japan. He has since garnered a following of millions and his videos have accumulated more than a billion views, engaging a new generation of audiences in the question of what it means to be a craftsperson in the modern age. In 2023 he published his first book, By My Hands: A Potter’s Apprenticeship.
