About

The tricoloured glazed pottery of the Tang Dynasty is a treasure of the firing process of ancient Chinese ceramics. The low-temperature-fired glazed pottery was popular in the Tang Dynasty, and is recognisable for its glazed colours which are yellow, green, white, brown, blue and black. Its major colours are yellow, green and white; hence the name “Tang tricoloured glazed pottery”.

Gao Shuiwang spent nearly 40 years researching the history and culture of the tricolour glazed pottery of the Tang Dynasty, the restoration of traditional techniques, the research and development of traditional crafts and the practice of creative industries. He has restored the dragonfly-wing-shaped crackled glaze, one of core techniques of tricoloured glazed pottery of the Tang Dynasty.

In 2008, his mastery of firing techniques of the Tang Dynasty was added to China’s intangible cultural heritage list. In 2009, he was awarded the representative inheritor of firing technique of tricoloured glazed pottery of  the Tang Dynasty.
