About

Grace McCarthy has been making ceramics for the past 10 years. She was part of the first cohort at Clay College Stoke, a course developed from a successful apprenticeship scheme which aims to train the next generation of studio potters. Whilst studying there, Grace learned a great number of skills and firing techniques that have changed and developed her work greatly. At present, most of her workis electric fired but she also explores gas and wood firing.

A lot of what influences Grace’s work is the raw clay and the firing process; the relationship between both of these elements is what excites her about ceramics. Seeing how one reacts to the other. She love capturing this in the functional pottery that she makes. Creating functional forms that quietly live in the home.

Before Grace’s time at Clay College, she studied Three Dimensional Design at Camberwell College of Art where she was able to explore a range of materials. In her final year, she became particularly interested in ceramics. After graduation, she became a technician at Turning Earth whilst selling her work in markets all over London and exhibiting er collections at various institutions and events including London Design Week.

Grace is currently based in North West London.
