About
Gyutak Lee is a ceramic artist based in Icheon, Korea, whose work treats ceramics as a narrative medium. Using punch’ong ware and white porcelain, he places familiar folk motifs—magpies, tigers, dragons—onto traditional vessel forms, turning jars and moon jars into pictorial scenes rather than purely functional objects.
Since his solo exhibition at Takashimaya Department Store in Tokyo in, Lee has continued to exhibit in cities such as Kanazawa and Kyoto, while also participating in international platforms including Collect in London (2019, 2021). In 2018, he conducted ceramic demonstrations at the Louvre Museum in Paris as part of the World Heritage Artisans Exhibition.
Lee’s punch’ong works are marked by asymmetrical forms and layered surface techniques that create a gentle, human rhythm. His ceramics invite viewers to linger—not to decode symbols, but to encounter stories that feel familiar, warm, and quietly alive.
His works are held in major public collections in Korea and abroad, including institutions in France, Japan, the United States, Russia, and Mexico.
