About

Ikuko Iwamoto is a ceramic artist based in Stoke Newington, London, who identifies as a “ceramic farmer.”  Her artistic journey is deeply rooted in her upbringing amidst the orange groves of Japan, where a profound connection to nature blossomed. This early experience informs her sustainable approach to her practice, utilising environmentally conscious methods in her clay work.

Iwamoto’s artistic expression transcends mere aesthetics; it serves as a powerful commentary on environmental concerns.  Her notable project, “Ghosts from the Sea,” poignantly addresses the critical issues of overfishing and ocean pollution, transforming these urgent realities into compelling artistic statements.

Her formal training includes a graduation from Camberwell College of Arts in 2004, followed by a degree in Ceramics and Glass from the Royal College of Art (RCA) in 2006.  This rigorous academic foundation, combined with her innate artistic sensibilities and commitment to sustainability, positions Iwamoto as a significant voice in contemporary ceramic art.  Her work is a testament to the power of art to illuminate and inspire action in the face of ecological challenges.
