About
Ikuko Iwamoto is a London-based ceramic artist originally from Japan. She works primarily with porcelain, creating sculptural vessels and installations inspired by natural forms, marine life, and microscopic structures.
After studying ceramics in Japan, she moved to the UK and completed a BA at Camberwell College of Arts and an MA at the Royal College of Art. Her work explores the boundary between functionality and sculpture, combining precision with organic growth and movement.
Iwamoto’s recent projects focus on environmental themes, particularly the fragility of ocean ecosystems. Her works often incorporate found or antique materials alongside porcelain, reflecting ideas of memory, sustainability, and transformation.
Her work has been exhibited internationally and is held in public collections including the Victoria and Albert Museum, Manchester Art Gallery, and Eton College. She is a QEST Andrew and Jane Winch Scholar, currently researching traditional Japanese urushi and kintsugi techniques to further expand her practice.
