About
Jonathan Keep lives and works on the Suffolk. He was born and grew up in South Africa, obtaining a BA
Fine Art degree from the University of Natal. In 1986 he moved to England and received a MA from the
Royal College of Art in 2002. His work has been described as sculptural, but he calls himself a potter in
support of cultures from around the world where pottery has been a vital art form. The function of his
pots, as in all sculpture, is to communicate, to offer a personal artistic expression and act as objects of
existential exploration. He has developed a making process where the shapes of his forms start in
computer code. Then, after redrawing in 3D software, the forms are coil built with the aid of digital
technology, also known as extrusion 3D printing. A technique that Jonathan has helped pioneer.
